I used to go along in my little blogging world, with my shiny blog posts and my pretty little website. Skipping along, posting, writing and posting some more.
Does that sound like a FAIRY TALE? You’re right. It was. I was posting and dreaming of a great online business while I had very few subscribers and even less sales. I didn’t know what was WRONG because it seemed like I was doing what needed doing. Did buyers just not like me? Was my hypnosis business too weird? Did I smell?
Online business can be complex and I started mine back when it was even harder. Today the technology is much simpler but I get it; you still need guidance when you’re starting out.
You still need guidance when you reach the Dead Zone of growth. You still need guidance when the online world is changing every SINGLE day. And that includes me. Share on XIn today’s video, I’ll be showing you 3 baffling reasons why you’re getting nowhere with email marketing.
You might be surprised.
Let’s get started.

Baffling Reason #1 My subscriber list is small. People just aren’t interested in me.
You’re subscriber email list may be small but that does NOT mean there aren’t people out there who are interested in what you have to say. It means you haven’t reached them yet. This digital world is no longer limited to the 30 mile radius of your business. You can reach most of the whole entire world. That’s over FOUR BILLION people! Four Billion people!
It is NOT possible that out of four billion people only a handful are interested in what you have to say. Even if you were writing about how to teach square dancing to butterflies, there would still be a group of people worldwide who want to know how to do that. And a small part of four billion is a lot of people!
The problem isn’t that people aren’t INTERESTED in you. The problem is they haven’t seen YOU yet. Just because you’re on the Internet doesn’t mean people can find you. If you’re one of the 7 million hits that came up when I searched for square dancing with butterflies, if you aren’t on page one, a lot of people won’t find you.
Your problem isn’t LACK of interest. Your problem is marketing and exposure. And that doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.
Baffling Reason #2 Just because someone subscribed, doesn’t mean they want my emails.
Now, wait a minute.
Let’s imagine you went to a website that sells boots. You want boots. You find a pair, and you buy it. Then, ding, you get an email that thanks you for the order and confirms your purchase. You start receiving emails that tell you when your order ships, and is on its way, and when it’s arriving.
And suddenly….
You are receiving emails from that website. They might show you sales on boots or new boot styles or food that goes with wearing boots or boot flash sales.
You are their subscriber. You probably didn’t ask to be but it’s understood in business today that a purchase from a website puts you on their list. You can unsubscribe any time. But you go on that list right away.
Now, how about a time when you noticed that website had some kind of info that you wanted. And it was free. It may have been an Ebook, a course, a video instruction, a white page or a PDF. You gave your name and email in order to receive it. And now you are on their subscriber list.
You start receiving emails from them probably in the form of blog posts.
It’s standard business practice that you give a free something in exchange for an email address. A subscriber can unsubscribe at any time. But when you get a freebie from a site, you EXPECT to be on the list.
A person who does that, WANTS to be on your list, because if not, they’ll unsubscribe right away. That doesn’t mean you’re selling to them every week. But you can sell to them.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find out what your subscribers really need and want and then provide that to them. Share on XBaffling Reason #3 I’m not good at writing copy or sales funnels so I just can’t grow.
Now, we can’t all be good copywriters. I always feel lame when I’m selling my own product. I have a hard time selling myself. I feel ya.
So you have three options.
- You can hire a copywriter to do it for you. You can go to Upsell or Fiverr and hire the work done. Not a bad option. I mean, I don’t do my own plumbing. I could learn but I don’t want to. So, I hire an expert.
- You can learn copywriting through a course or a book or by modeling the way someone who it successful is doing it. I like this way for me because I’ll have to continue to use this skill in the future and I want to get better at it. I’ll be putting an in depth into the course about this, for the coming year.
- You can give up, sit in the corner and have a pity party. This doesn’t help anyone including your bank account and I don’t want to hear it from you.If C is your option, please don’t join my Facebook group. We’re there to learn and grow, not whine. Harsh but true.
Today I told you that with marketing and exposure, your list can grow no matter how small your niche. I showed the standard business practice of email list subscribers and how you can serve an audience of raving fans. And I explained that even if copywriting isn’t your thing and you don’t exactly know how to do a sales funnel, you can still use copywriting and sales funnels to sell.
