So I want to ask you guys, how many of you WANT to use video in your business, know you SHOULD be using video in your business but are still NOT using video in your business? Maybe you have a course or a program or a blog to share with the world. You know this is something people want and need but you’re feeling a little bit stuck. Or you’re feeling a little bit unsure, scared or nervous that people will reject your offer; that nobody will buy. Is that you?
I want to talk to you today about the 3 myths that are stopping you from using video in your business. Using video in your blog and social media sites is where it’s happening right now.
Google says it best. “You’re 53 times more likely to show up first on Google if you have a video embedded in your website.” And when you are looking to bring in customers and clients, being first on Google is the ideal place to be!”
Let’s get started.

Myth #1:
I can’t do video for my business because I look funny, sound too country, sound too city, I’m too old, I’m too fat, I’m too thin, I say “Uh”, I say “duh”, I roll my eyes, I lick my lips, I blah, blah, blah, blah, blah….
STOP!
You are an average human being, just like the rest of us. Actors worry about how they sound and how they look and facial expressions, not average persons. Most of us want to listen to and buy from an average person, not an actor.
There’s a drug commercial out now that shows actors with eczema. But the eczema is a drawing laid on top of the video. The actor obviously doesn’t have this problem. Wouldn’t you rather listen for advice on eczema from someone who has REALLY had it before? Wouldn’t that person have personal experience that you could learn from?
YOU have experience in your area of expertise and a person who is looking to learn from you, wants to hear from you. Because you have flaws and are not perfect on video, proves that you are not just an actor. That is EXACTLY why they want to see you on video! Because you aren’t perfect and you are obviously a real person.
Everyone can relate to someone who is like them or is someone they want to be like. You show through your humanism. Even your goofy mistakes on camera is something that people like to see. They want to see that you are REAL and not just someone who hides their flaws.
Myth #2:
I can’t do video for my business because there are sooo many other people out there who know more about my subject than I do. Why would anyone listen to me?
Oh, so you have Imposter’s Syndrome. You think if you talk about your business someone might think you are posing when there are big old successful people out there who know more. Everyone wants to listen to those big guys not little ol’ you.
Come one, get OVER it. Remember that the Internet links us to the whole world. And in that big world there is a group of people that will relate to you and your style. Not everyone will, and that’s OK. You don’t want everyone. You want followers and subscribers who like and relate to you. Those loyal fans will listen and buy from you because they like YOU. They relate to YOU. They want to hear more from YOU.
And someone who relates to you, doesn’t care that those big guys have more experience or more followers or slicker ad campaigns. They just like YOU. They are looking for a more personal experience from a more human person. That’s what you are for them.
And they are out there waiting for you, so get going!

Myth #3:
I can’t do video for my business because I’m camera shy and then I get tongue tied
or I can’t find a way to keep my video short.
This was a big one for me. I am camera shy but I decided to take the challenge and make a new video every day. I did that for about 2 months last year and just became used to the camera like that. That is a good exercise to do for getting comfortable with being in FRONT of that camera. Also I think it helped that I was alone to film, I feel it’s harder for me when someone is there with me.
If you’re camera shy, you will just have to work through that because video is too important to your business to avoid. I’m not saying you can’t have a business without video because you can but you will increase your Google standing and your REVENUE when you include video.
Remember, this new generation of adults searches for products and services through the internet and they rely heavily on video. They like short videos that are informative. They will subscribe to someone they relate to and that they feel gives them good info.
The short video was another problem for me. I tended to ramble on and get off topic. Friends told me they would look at the length of time of my video and set it aside until later because it was too long. And they were right.
The way I solved the problem turned out to have added benefits. Now I write out my script and follow it on camera. I don’t go over long and the best part? That script becomes my blog post! Already written out and done. I embed the video into the blog post and Voilá…my work is done! That saves me a ton of time.
OK, now you know why you should be using video in your business and we blasted through three of the myths you might be telling yourself.
