THE BIGGEST MYTHS ABOUT WRITING A BLOG POST

I see a lot of myths out there about blogging and even more myths about just writing a blog post.  So do you want to avoid the blogging myths that might be making your blog unproductive?

Just between you and me, I think I’ve made every single blogging mistake out there.  Sometimes I knew what I did wrong but sometimes I just didn’t know why it wasn’t clicking.  It took a lot of thinking and figuring out, as well as having great coaches, to help me learn what I’ve come to learn today.

But it wasn’t really until I came to create my Pretty & Smart Business Planner and I really started using it, that my business took off.  I’ve notice a lot of you making the same mistakes that I did.  You wear your heart on a sleeve and sometimes you’re gonna get hurt.

   So here’s myth #1.

Myth #1   IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME.

Wrong!  You know there’s thousands of blogs out there and you have to have a strategy in place just to succeed.

You know I wrote a lot about theory and research.  I quoted people.  That’s not what my audience wanted.  I just wrote a lot about all of that stuff.  I didn’t really know what my audience wanted.  I didn’t know what they wanted to hear.  They weren’t responding but I couldn’t figure out why.

You have to have a strategy and a way to connect to your audience in their own words and thoughts and patterns.  And put that into a post for them, and then they’ll pay attention to your blog.  You know, once I got that through my thick head, my audience really loved it.

Yeah, you’ve gotta speak to them in their own language or they’re just not gonna get it.

Myth #2 BLOGGING IS LIKE WRITING AN ESSAY FOR MRS. WILLIAM’S ENGLISH CLASS

Sorry, Mrs. Williams, in heaven.  But that’s wrong, wrong, wrong.  That kind of writing belongs in class, not on your blog.

I was writing essays every week and I was getting nowhere.  You’re speaking to your audience.  They want to know about you and they want to know the answers to their struggles.  They do NOT want an essay.

I was writing an essay to my audience every week and they really weren’t responding very well because that wasn’t what they wanted to hear.  I thought I was writing to their issues, but the truth was I wasn’t asking them, or I would have known.

Myth #3   IF I SHARE POSTS FROM OTHER BLOGGERS, I’M GONNA LOSE SUBSCRIBERS.

In fact, the opposite is true.  When you share great information, you look good to your audience.  They’re gonna like your taste.  If they don’t like your taste they are just not the right audience for you.  They shouldn’t be following you or in your group.  Now maybe that sounds kind of harsh to you, but you really want to focus in on people that speak your language and you speak their’s.  They’re the ones that will respond best to you.

When you share and you link to other experts, You’re approaching more people and sharing more points of view.  It also proves your loyalty to your audience, cause you’re saying, “I’m willing to give you answers, even if those answers come from somebody else.  Even if those answers come from somebody with more experience.  Even if they come from someone who shares a little bit different point of view from me.”

So you’re helping them no matter what.  And that’s really what they want.  They want help for their issues for their pain points.  And they like your voice to give it to them. Even if it’s someone else’s voice.
